“Poppies now mark their memory,
The thousands of 6.6.4;
They saved for us a freedom
One we must now fight for.”

I was born on June 6th, DD Day, but 3 years before. Some of the American soldiers bivouacked in the park near our house. Many I’m sure died in the invasion. But their generosity and openness so impressed my dad that after the war we emigrated to the US.

This painting is taken from the poppy flower that marks the graves of so many that gave their lives for our freedom. An issue so poignant in these troubled times. It is our turn now to fight.
